BEIJING (June 02) Minister of Finance,
Lim Guan Eng said that he welcomes China companies such as Huawei to invest in
Malaysia.
He
said that in recent years, China has become Malaysia's largest trading partner.
In the first quarter of this year, China was the second largest source of
foreign investment in Malaysia.
However,
Lim Guan Eng believes that China companies still have a large room for growth
in their investment in Malaysia.
"In
his view, the two countries are expected to further strengthen cooperation in
the fields of science and technology such as 5G and services such as tourism
and medical care."
Lim
Guan Eng said in an exclusive interview with Xinhua News Agency in Beijing
yesterday that he welcomes China companies such as Huawei to invest in
Malaysia.
Lim
Guan Eng is currently inspecting in Beijing and will travel to Shanghai and
Shenzhen, and will visit a number of China companies including Huawei.
He
said that Malaysia is constantly optimizing the local investment environment,
respecting market rules, encouraging fair competition, and allowing investors
to obtain legal protection.
He
also said that while attracting more China companies to invest in Malaysia,
Malaysia companies are also optimistic about the China market.
Lim
Guan Eng said that since the 45th anniversary of the establishment of
diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China, the business environment in
China has continued to improve. This is an important reason why Malaysia
companies are willing to invest in China.

When
talking about China's latest expansion measures including further reducing the
negative list of foreign investment, Lim Guan Eng believes that China's
expansion will bring many investment opportunities to Malaysia companies.
He
is also optimistic about China's economic development prospects and believes
that China's huge consumer market will continue to inject momentum into China's
economic development.
Lim
Guan Eng said that the Malaysian government is committed to continuing to
develop relations with China and will support and actively participate in the
construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative and promote bilateral
economic and trade cooperation.
In
addition, Lim Guan Eng also met with Song Tao, Minister of the International
Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China in Beijing.
During
the meeting, Song Tao welcomed Lim Guan Eng's first visit to China after he
became the finance minister and said that China and Malaysia are traditionally
friendly. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 45 years ago, the two
countries have carried out mutually beneficial cooperation on the basis of
mutual respect and equal treatment, and have achieved fruitful results.
He
said that the two meetings between President of China, Xi Jinping and Prime
Minister of Malaysia, Tun Mahathir have pointed out the direction for the
development of China-Malaysia relations from a strategic and long-term
perspective.
Song
Tao said that inter-party contacts have an important political leading role in
the development of state relations. The Communist Party of China (CPC) is
willing to work with the Democratic Action Party (DAP) of Malaysia to implement
the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two parties and the two
countries. In order to continuously enhance mutual trust, we will lay a more
solid political foundation for the two countries to build a "Belt and
Road" and strengthen cooperation in various fields.
Song
Tao also said that China appreciates Malaysia actively defend on the free trade
system and multilateralism, and is willing to work with Malaysia to promote
peace and prosperity in Asia and the world.
Lim
Guan Eng positively evaluated the relationship between Malaysia and China and
said that expressed support for the Malaysia Government actively pursue a
friendly policy toward China and supporting the "One Belt, One Road"
initiative.
He
hoped that the two sides will take the opportunity of the 45th anniversary of
the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year
to uphold the concept of peace, enhance exchanges between the two parties, and
safeguard the multilateral trading system and promote regional areas through
practical actions.
