(Xiamen 7th) Malaysia Special Envoy to China and Chairman of the Malaysia - China Business Council (MCBC), Tan Kok Wai said that it is a general trend to legally export Cave’s Nest to China. The Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia should keep up with the times and extend the limitation of Cave’s Nest export rights.

He said that Malaysia as one of the exporters of Bird’s Nest did not make full use of huge consumer market and business opportunities in China to benefit the Bird’s Nest industry.

"On the contrary, some politicians in the past have deliberately set a high threshold for Bird’s Nest export to help their friends use monopoly methods, including the implementation of excessively harsh 'radio frequency identification system' (RFID), and the establishment of privatized testing centers. "

On the Friday, Tan Kok Wai was invited to visit Xiamen in China, to conduct on-the-spot visits to the “Southeast Edible Bird’s Nest Capital Industrial Park” and “Imported Cave’s Nests Inspection and Storage and Designation Integration Platform”.

Members of the trip also include CEO of the Malaysian Business Council Dr. Hew Kuan Yau,, and Special Assistant to the Special Envoy of China, Mr. Liew.

Tan Kok Wai said that the Bird’s Nest House needs to have appropriate regulations to ensure that the public interest is not disturbed. But the relevant regulations, including RFID, must be simplified, reasonable and not harsh.

"This is the basic spirit and principle of government administration. It is necessary to strike a balance between promoting bird's nest production, safeguarding public health and protecting consumer interests."

He said that he had met and listened to the feedback from Malaysia Bird’s Nest farmers and related companies. They were uncomfortable with the decision to export only House Bird’s Nest instead of Cave’s Nest. I hope this policy can be amended.

“China is the world's largest consumer of Bird’s Nest, but it does not produce Cave’s Nest. According to preliminary statistics, the total annual production of bird's nest in the world (mainly Southeast Asia) is about 2,500 to 2,600 tons, of which 1900 to 2,000 tons are sold to China.”

He said that it is a general trend to legally export Cave’s Nest to China. This not only cooperates with the China government to regulate the healthy development of the bird's nest industry, but also protects the reasonable profits of the majority of Malaysia Bird’s Nest farmers and avoids being crushed by monopolies.

Tan Kok Wai said that it is time for the Ministry of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Malaysia to keep pace with the times and issue a new policy. "I openly appealed that the Ministry of Agriculture should understand the China government's policy on regulating Cave’s Nest’s entry and cooperate with the relevant regulations of the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China as soon as possible. If Malaysia Cave’s Nest can legally import into China, it will certainly bring about mutual benefit and win-win effect for the economic and trade relations between Malaysia and China.
