Inquiring about whether the export of durian will affect the supply of local durians, Datuk Salahuddin pointed out that the durians exported to China only accounted for 5% of the production of durians in Malaysia, and the production of durians will be relatively increased, so there will be no impact.

“Durian production in Malaysia will increase and the market for exports to neighboring countries (Singapore) will not be affected. Malaysia people can also buy local durians at reasonable prices.”

He also mentioned that the Malaysia government has been trying to introduce durians into the China market since 2007, and finally successfully exported frozen durian pulp to China in May 2011. In 2018, the export of durian pulp reached RM94.45 million (235.62 metric tons).

“Malaysia’s durian exports in 2018 have increased to 340,000 metric tons compared to 211,000 metric tons in 2017 and are expected to continue to increase in the future.”

Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr. Bai Tian said that Malaysia’s durian is considered the best in the world, and he believes that between 300 million and 400 million people in China’s 1.4 billion people expect to introduce more Malaysia durians, and the export of durians will bring greater income to companies that produce durians in Malaysia.
