KUALA
LUMPUR (April 15): The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has
set up a task force to promote industrial area, infrastructure, logistics hubs
and public transport-oriented development along the East Coast Rail Link Project
(ECRL).
MIDA
issued a statement today saying that the purpose of the internal team was to
promote, evaluate and review the Economic Accelerator Project (EAP) along the
East Coast Rail Link.
MIDA
pointed out that in the future; the team will discuss various action plans for
promotion and exchange with stakeholders, including the local industry, and
participate in strategy formulation.
On
April 25 this year, MIDA and China Communications Construction Co., Ltd. (CCCC)
signed a memorandum of understanding in Beijing, which was witnessed by Malaysia
Prime Minister Tun Mahathir and Premier of the People's Republic of China Li
Keqiang. After the signing ceremony, MIDA established the above-mentioned task
force.

MIDA
pointed out that these catalytic projects will create a wide range of business
and job opportunities, including industrial parks, logistics hubs and public
transport-oriented development along the East Coast Rail Link.
MIDA
said that the project will become the East-West rail transport network in the
future, stimulating business, logistics, import and export and tourism
development activities along the route.
MIDA
also said that with foreign direct investment and local investment inflows, as
well as potential growth in the industrial, commercial and tourism sectors, the
railway will help bridge the development between the East and West coasts of
Malaysia.

Communications Construction Co., Ltd. (CCCC) will jointly promote the economic
accelerator project to achieve maximum success and will invite local and
international investors to invest in the program.”
MIDA
said that the two sides will also carry out cooperation and capacity building
activities to encourage business organizations to participate in dialogues,
forums and conferences, technical assistance, as well as to promote capacity
building and training, and to share the best practices. MIDA will publish
information on the implementation of the economic accelerator project from time
to time.
