Penang:
In addition to the high price of small buildings in Hong Kong, the consumption
index is high and it is already world famous. In order to have a better life,
many Hong Kong people have already considered moving to Malaysia, and the
Malaysia Second Home Project (MM2H) seminar held in Hong Kong is almost full of
crowds.
Recently,
Hong Kong artist Chapman Toh posted an online program called "Pick Me Up
To Malaysia" in an exaggerated form. One of the episodes introduced the
houses in Penang. The house covers an area of 2,770 square feet and is priced
at RM3.7 million (approximately HK$7.4 million) with two parking spaces.
When
Chapman Toh heard the price, he was very surprised and described that in Hong
Kong to find a house at this price, you should take the time machine to go back
to the old time.
The
Oriental Daily News interviewed two Hong Kong people who have joined the
Malaysia Second Home Project to learn about Hong Kong's situation, as Chapman
Toh described it.
Hong
Kong citizen Johnny (52), who has joined the Malaysia Second Home Program, said
in an interview with Oriental Daily that he is a fitness coach in Hong Kong.
He
admits that from 5 to 10 years ago, the income earned in Hong Kong still
belongs to the middle class. There unnecessary to put too much consideration when
he buying things. But nowadays prices have risen in Hong Kong has made him feel
like a low-income class and must be cautious about every cost.
In
a certain area of Hong Kong, a house only 100 square feet cost as high as HKD 2
million to 3 million (about RM1.06 million to RM1.6 million). However, in the
width of more than 100 square feet in Malaysia, it is only one of the middle
rooms in an apartment.
"In
Hong Kong, the price of a parking space already reached HKD 2 million to 3
million. The purchase of apartment units in Malaysia also includes parking
spaces, which is a luxury dream for Hong Kong people.”
He
also said that many Hong Kong youths today cannot afford to buy a house. Even
if they have to pay for the down payment, they will not be able to afford such
a large amount of money.
He
pointed out that buying a house with a price of HKD 2 million to 3 million in
Hong Kong must first pay up to 30% of the first period which is HKD 600,000 to
900,000 (about RM320,000 to RM480,000).
“If
buy a house with a higher price, the first period is as high as 40%, and many
Hong Kong people could not afford the price.”
He
revealed that due to Hong Kong's property prices and rents are too expensive,
there are even "campers" in Hong Kong. These people buy camping tents
and live in tents every night in the camping area.
He
said that in Malaysia, a 1,000-square-foot apartment unit can be purchased for HKD
2 to 3 million includes pool and gym facilities and the living space of the
apartment is spacious. Compared with the small space of Hong Kong's residence,
it is a huge difference between two countries.
He
also said that in Hong Kong, no matter go to the downtown area or the streets,
there are crowds of people. Even if the holiday goes to the suburbs, there are
many people, and parking spaces are hard to find. On the contrary, Malaysia’s
place is wide, and the entire living space is also wide. There is no pressure
like Hong Kong’s crowded life.
“The park in Malaysia allows people to play football, badminton
and ride a bicycle, but in Hong Kong parks, we are prohibited from doing the
above activities.”
He
said that he wanted to say goodbye to Hong Kong's unquality life and had
considered moving to Taiwan, but taking into account natural disasters such as
earthquakes occur frequently in Taiwan.
After
came into contact with Malaysia, I considered that there was no natural
disaster in Malaysia and the low consumption index. So I decided to come to
Malaysia to inspect the housing market and decided to officially move to Kuala
Lumpur in August this year.
He
pointed out that more and more Hong Kong people know Malaysia, so now every time
they hold a seminar of Malaysia Second Home Project (MM2H), they’re always full
of crowds.
He
said that he also opened a channel called "DJ Diary" in Youtube to
introduce the housing and living in Malaysia. It has caused some Hong Kong
people interesting in Malaysia's housing and life.
International school tuition is cheap and its
quality is not bad
Hong
Kong citizen Johnny pointed out that in Hong Kong, if a child wants to enroll
in an international school, parents must pay an "admission fee" of at
least HKD 2 million to 3 million, which is a big burden for parents. On the
contrary, International School in Malaysia is exempted. On the contrary,
Malaysia International School is exempt from this fee, and the level of
education in Malaysia is no worse than Hong Kong.
Johny
and his family will officially move to Kuala Lumpur in August this year, and
they will make a film in Malaysia to investigate the building and life
experience, upload it to the Youtube channel, which has attracted the attention
of many Hong Kong people.
He
said that after the child graduated, the school would return the money to the
parents, but this "admission fee" is a big burden, and many parents
can't afford it.
He
said that in Malaysia, the admission to Malaysia International School would exempt
this huge expense. The annual tuition fee is also cheaper than Hong Kong and
the quality of education between Hong Kong and Malaysia almost same. The most
important thing is that the children have a lot of room for activities in
school.
Leisure in life, food culture has a sense
of belonging
Hong
Kong citizen Deng Shuming pointed out that Penang's consumption index is low
and medical services are quite perfect. The most important life rhythm and
space is more comfortable than Hong Kong, so she and her husband decided to
officially move to Penang next year to begin their semi-retirement life.
When
Deng Shuming received an interview with the Oriental Daily News, she mentioned
that Hong Kong’s life comfort index was getting worse and worse, and some
policies of the Hong Kong government made some people decide to leave Hong Kong
and live elsewhere.
She
said that many Hong Kong people have special liking for Thailand and the property
prices in Thailand are very cheap. So at first they considered moving to
Thailand, but ultimately they will have great problems considering local laws
and languages.
Her
friends who lived in Penang strongly recommended them to move to Penang, and
after they visited, they liked the city very much and purchased a property in
Penang in 2011.
She
said that the Penang consumer index is low and the pace of life is leisurely.
Unlike in Hong Kong, the pace of life in the entire environment is fast. In
addition, Penang is a Chinese-majority city that can find a sense of belonging
in both food and culture.
She
also stressed that although national language in Malaysia is Malay, but English
can still be used in this country.
In
addition, Deng Shuming pointed out that Malaysian real estate is suitable for
long-term investment, and is not suitable for make quick money.
