Malaysia Welcomes More Investment from Austria

(Vienna, 21 May) Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Mahathir welcomed more Austrian foreign direct investment to Malaysia and strengthened bilateral relations between Malaysia and Austria. After Mahathir today with Mr. Kurz, Austria Prime Minister for 40-minute meeting at the Prime Minister's Office, he said at the joint press conference that the focus of the discussions was on the economy, and Malaysia understood that Austria has many excellent industrial enterprises.


Meeting With the Oldest and Youngest National Leaders


The meeting between Mahathir and Kurz also set a historic moment for the meeting of the oldest and youngest national leaders. They were 93 and 32 respectively.


Mahathir said: "Austria can provide more things; Austria is also a very good market for Malaysian products. We also welcome more foreign direct investment from Austria."


"We know that the current trade volume is not enough, but it is very substantial, so investment can increase the trade volume between the two countries."


He said that Austria is also involved in cable car project in Langkawi Island. “I hope more Austrian tourists come to Malaysia and there are many Malaysian musicians who go to Austria.”



Kurz: To Learn From Mahathir


Kurz (32 years old), who is also the youngest leader of the country in the world, said that he is very happy to meet with Mahathir, who is also the oldest and most experienced leader in the world.


“As the youngest leader, I still have a lot to learn from him. I am very happy to meet the oldest and most experienced leader in the world. I thank him for taking the time to meet me.”


"We also see a huge potential for Malaysia in the field of energy and infrastructure. We can work together to deepen our relationship, as well as strengthening bilateral relations and the future of the economy."


Kurz said that Austria invested 860 million euros in Malaysia annually and there are 70 Austrian companies operating in Malaysia.
