KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 15): Malaysia's general insurance sector may see higher growth this year on stronger consumer confidence amid better car sales.
The Malaysian Insurance Institute chief executive officer Datuk Syed Moheeb Syed Kamarulzaman said car sales had been a crucial gauge of consumer confidence. According to Syed Moheeb, 48% of general insurance premiums were derived from motor insurance.
"Car sales for 2016 have been better than 2015, (particularly towards the end of the year), and car sales have always been a barometer for consumer confidence," he told reporters at the institute's talent development seminar here today.
