Laos
is a member of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) since
January 1995, of the Paris Convention for Protection of Industrial Property
since October 1998 and of the PCT (Patent) since June 2006.
Documents Required For
Laos Trademark Filing
To file a Laos trademark application, the following
information and documents are required:
(i) Full name and address of the applicant;
(ii) Trademark specimens (15 specimens) with the size not
larger than 100mm x 100mm and not smaller 50mm x 50mm;
(iii) Translation and transliteration of the mark if the
mark is not in English;
(iv) A list of goods/services and the International
Classification of respective goods/services (if known);
(v) Priority data for claiming priority right under the
Paris Convention (if any), including application number, priority date,
country. Original certified copy of the priority application and the English
translation can be lodged later, after filing; and
(vi) A notarized Power of Attorney from the applicant which
is described in Section 6 hereunder. Power of Attorney should be notarized by a
Notary Public in any country, while legalization is not required. One Power of
Attorney can be used for plurality if no particular mark is identified in the
Power of Attorney. A fax copy is acceptable at filing provided that the
original is submitted later.

Application Procedures
The step by step for the Laos trademark registration procedures:
Step 1: Client send us (by email or fax or post) a specimen
of the trademark, a detailed list of products or/and services to be covered by
the trademark and at the same time make payment for the pre-filing search to Tannet
by remittance or cheque (payment method);
Step 2: conduct the pre-filing search and prepare search
report and email the search reports to clients;
Step 3: (If the search results indicate that the application
is likely to be accepted and clients decide to proceed) Clients send us the
photocopy of identity proof (passport copy for individual and Certificate of
Incorporation or Business Registration License for corporation) and at the same
time make payment for the filing of application to Tannet by remittance;
Step 4: prepare the Laos Trademark application forms and
Power of Attorney (PoA) and deliver them to clients for execution;
Step 5: Clients sign the Power of Attorney and arrange to
have it notarised by a Notary Public;
Step 6: Clients send the duly executed Power of Attorney PoA
and Laos trademark registration forms back to us by post of courier (please
note original copy of Power of Attorney is required by the purpose of filing);
Step 7: submit the application documents to the Laos
Trademark Office;
Step 8: The Laos Trademark Office perform examination and
other procedures; if no objection received, the Laos Trademark Office then
issues the Certificate of Registration;
Step 9: forward the Certificate of Registration to clients.

Currently Laos trademark Application is taking approximately 20-24 months to get
a trademark in Laos. (For the mark which is not face any objection by registrar)
Laos Trademark Registration Term of
Protection
Laos trademark registration is valid for 10 years starts with registration
date. The registration is renewable for periods of 10 years.
