Norway Logo Registration

Norway logo registration are filed with the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO) of Norway. Norway is not a member of the European Union and an EU logo (OHIM) does not cover Norway. A standard Community logo will not prevent third parties neither registering nor using your logo in Norway. Foreign applicants wanting to protect their logos in Norway must file a separate application with the Norwegian Industrial Property Office (NIPO) or specifically include Norway in an international logo registration under the Madrid Protocol.


 


Documents Required for Filing of the Norway Logo Application

To obtain the date of filing a logo application in Norway must contain at least:

- Name of at least one applicant;

- Mark in JPEG format

- Detailed specification of goods and/or services in Norwegian;

- Details of priority claim, if any (state, application number and filing date).

To obtain the date of filing a logo application in Norway must contain at least:

- For word marks: the logo in plain letters, for device marks or combined marks: a representation of the logo;

- Detailed specification of goods and/or services in Norwegian;

Norway Logo Registration Procedure

The Norway logo registration procedure is formed of the following main steps:


1. Checking the availability of the logo in Norway. This report will inform upon the probability of the logo registration to be successful. The Examination looks for characteristics of the logo application but also for similarity to other registered Norwegian logos or European community logos. Also the examination looks into the confusion which might be created by the logo with other Intellectual property, including but not limited to copyright or geographical origin denominations.


2. Filing the actual application for the Registration of the Logo in Norway. The file will of course be processed beforehand by specialized Norwegian Intellectual Property Lawyers or Agent.


3. Obtaining the confirmation of the successful registration of the logo in Norway and subsequently obtaining of the Norwegian Logo Registration Certificate.


Term of Norway Logo Protection

The term of Norway logo protection is ten years from the date of registration.  The Norway logo may be renewed for additional ten year terms within six months of the expiration date of the mark's present term.
