The logo in United Arab Emirates

Registration: Requirements
A United Arab Emirates (UAE) logo
application has to be filed before the Logo Office by a logo agent. A notarized
power of attorney authenticated by a consulate of the Emirates is necessary.
Foreign applicants do not need a domestic registration. A separate United Arab
Emirates (UAE) logo application has to be filed for each class. Similar logos
may be protected together with the main logo as associated logos for the same
owner, in case the main elements are similar and the differences irrelevant.

Registration: Procedure
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) logo
application process includes a formal examination, an examination of
distinctiveness and a search for prior logos. It takes approximately 12-15
months from first filing to registration. Before registration, the logo
application is published in the Logo Bulletin as well as in two local daily
Arabic newspapers within 30 days from the approval of the publication form. The
opposition period is 30 days from the date of the last publication since a logo
application is published in the Logos Journal and two local newspapers in
accordance with the Federal Logo Law.

A United Arab Emirates (UAE) logo
registration is valid for 10 years as of the date of filing the application
renewable for similar periods. The renewal fees of a logo registration can be
paid during the final year of the protection period.
